Can I count macros if I am pregnant or nursing?
Yes!
A great place for ANYONE to start is simply tracking what you are currently eating. No judging, no trying to eat healthier, just gather the data of your current diet. And then from there you are in an enlightened place to start making small tweaks towards a diet that will move you towards your goals.
When you are pregnant, the concept is no different . However, your goals typically change. Instead of weight loss your goal is typically weight gain or weight maintenance (obviously that goal should be set in conjunction with your provider). So track what you are eating now and track how your body is responding and if you aren't moving towards your goal that's when you adjust your macros.
If you are nursing, your goal is typically a slight weight loss without the loss of milk supply. So, you will track what you are eating now and track how your body is responding. Then you can slowly lower your calories to find a balance between fueling your body, keeping your milk supply and achieving your goals.
What if your body doesn't want to lose weight at nurse? Then have patience. Enjoy the time nursing, continue to track macros at a maintenance level and then when you are done nursing you will have the knowledge you need to begin your cut.
